It is no secret that the idea of having a little dancing has seen many a grown man running to the mountains. In fact, trying to persuade another to some men on the track dance is often met with the same response that would result if only he had asked to walk along a busy street wearing only a thong and Borat Mankini style.
That's a real shame (not the Mankini!) As the dance floor is usually the part of the room where the most fun is happening. "But you have not seen how they dance!" I hear you mourn. And you can have a good point. But a little effort and know-how can improve their technique.
So here are some suggestions to try:
Keep your head up. Do not fall into the trap of looking at his feet all the time. Looking soil submissive makes you look stupid, that will make you stand out as a sore thumb
Relax. Avoid the temptation to keep looking around the room to check if someone is scrutinizing their movements. Focus on the person you're dancing with, and just try to relax and get lost in the rhythm.
Have fun. Dance is as much about attitude as it is their movements, so the fall of poker face when you're on the floor. Smile and acknowledge others and you begin to feel like one of the crowd.
Mix it up. Do the same steps again and again can be tedious, so adding a little variety their movements. No need for anything fancy or extravagant. Just keep it subtle. Simple actions like throwing in some hand movements and using the odd turn can help break a little.
Register yourself. Get your video camera (camera phone, web cam) and the movies themselves. This gives you an idea of what is dancing. You could look in a mirror, but you may find yourself focusing more on what move to do next. Notes to Self will play more of an objective viewpoint.
Get in-Office. Like most things in life, something more than practice, the better you do. You can practice on their own, or preferably with a partner. Why not take some dance classes. Hey, you might even enjoy she!
